Re:How to find a job question - 2006/05/31 14:25 I am very focused on moving and working here now; I visited last year and was impressed by the breakneck Celtic Tiger economic growth, the lifestyle and the scenic eye candy.

To jump to my question: I've just graduated with my Masters in Research Methods, and I have already sent my CV to 6 Dublin recruiters too. However I've recently been told that it's extremely difficult for non-EU nationals (e.g. Americans like myself) to secure an Ireland employment permit, except for workers from a few select industries (e.g. IT and nursing).

My skills fit the IT industry somewhat, but not exactly. Zoveress (or anyone else who's successfully moved there from outside the EU!), could you kindly let me know some easier ways to find paid work in Dublin or elsewhere?

How did you do it? Any suggestions on whom I should talk to/persuade?

Thank you so much! I found this site through 43things, and think it's brilliant. So nice of you to build this site, Zoveress.

Kind regards,
Ban

Re:How to find a job question - 2006/06/01 11:43 Hi,
Do you have some years of work experience?
You will probably need this to get a workpermit. Generally it shouldn't be that complicated to get a job when you are doing research.

The problem is that either you need to have a skillsed which is really sought after here or you should have better skills than the average person in the same profession to get a workpermit. The employer must see that he/she makes a good investment to get you over.

What I would try to do if you really want to work here, just book a holiday in Ireland for a few weeks and try look for a job when you are around. Usually it is a lot easier to find something when you are here.

These are the ares where you get a working visa granted automatically:

* Information and computing technologies professionals/technicians
* Architects
* Construction Engineers
* Quantity Surveyors
* Building Surveyors
* Town Planners
* Registered Nurses
* Medical Practitioners
* Dentists
* Diagnostic or Therapeutic Radiographers
* Dieticians
* Occupational Therapists
* Orthoptists
* Medical Physicists
* Psychologists
* Speech and Language Therapists
* Social Workers
* Medical Scientists
* Physiotherapists
* Hospital Pharmacists
* ECG Technicians
* Neurophysiological Measurement Technicians
* Cardiac Catheterization Technicians
* Audiologists
* Biochemists.

Re:How to find a job question - 2006/06/12 06:17 Hi Zoveress
thanks also for starting this website!
I too am wanting to live and work in Dublin and I am a Registered Hospice Nurse currently living in Michigan. I understand I can get a visa but don't know exactly how to get started. any tips would be wonderful! I plan to move within a year from now. I also want to bring my mini Dachshund and heard thru this site that non-EU citizens can get their dogs micro-chipped and bring heavy documentation and be able to bring their pets without the 6 month quarantine??
thanks so much for any advice you can give!

Re:How to find a job question - 2006/06/12 11:51 Hi
I dunno much about moving pets over to Ireland, however you basically need to have a job offer before you get the visa. As a nurse I do not think it is a problem, try email recruiters in this area and look for a job on the web.
I have this link for you:

I would be very grateful if you would share your findings with us as we all could learn from it

I hadn't heard about the micro-chip situation.... I thought that the pets had to be quarantined due to rabies? I have a cat, and from what I've been told, it's about 1,400 euros for the six month stay.
