Hi Cate, thankds for the info-but is the Chicago address only for if someone wants to become irish citizen thru descent? (i.e. parent or grand parent irish born?) It looks like I do not qualify because my "grand grand parents" or "great-grandparents came from ireland?) If this is so, then does anyone know of other ways I can become an irish citizen? also, is the Chicago address also for obtaining a Visa to work in ireland as a nurse?? thanks loads! Céile

If so then you can get an irish passport easliy.. I think even trhough grandparents it should be OK. Getting it though grand-grand parents is a problem and very hard to get it sorted.
Hey! Sorry I haven't been here to reply sooner. Anyway, I am applying for 'citizenship be descent'. Which means I will have my birth registered in Ireland. Here's what you need: Documents relating to your Grandparent 1. Full/long form Irish birth certificate. 2. Marriage license, showing grandparents' names, places of birth and ages at the time of marriage. 3. One additional certified document e.g., notarized copies of grandparents' current i.d., naturalization papers, or death certificate, if applicable.
Documents relating to your parent 1. Full/long form birth certificate showing grandparnts' names, places of birth and ages at the time of your parents' birth. Birth certificates which do not contain t his info are not sufficient in themselves to establlish a clear relationship to the Irish-born grandparent. 2.Marriage license showing parents' names, places of birth and ages at the time of marriage and if possible, showing grandparents' names and places of birth. 3.One additional certified document e.g., notarized copies of parents' i.d. (passport, drivers license) or death certificate if applicable.
You will also need similar documentation for yourself.
Obviously, they are trying to establish lineage, so the more detailed info you can supply, the better.
Since I live in Florida, I have to go thru the consulate in NYC. Ceile, for instance, living in Michigan, would go thru the consulate in Chicago.
Here are the physical/email addresses to NY and Chicago: Consulate General of Ireland 345 Park Ave 17th Floor New York, NY 10154-0037 Tel:212.319.2555 email:congenny@aol.com
Consulate General of Ireland 400 North Michigan Ave Chicago,Il 60611 tel: 312.337.1868 email:irishconsulate@sbcglobal.net
They can send you the forms and additional info you'll need. Hope that was a bit of help, any other questions please let me know.

Post edited by: cate, at: 2006/06/13 18:34
